Improve productivity or bring a faulty machine back to life
Retrofitting a Machine tool can be an extremely cost effective way to change an old machine into a modern, highly productive and easy to use machine tool.
When weighed up against the cost of taking the old machine out, digging new foundations to suit a replacement machine, installation of the new machine and the disruption to your factory of the change over process, the economics of performing a quality retrofit are compelling.
Seymour have a long history of Retro-fitting and Re-engineering machine tools. We have a catalogue of projects that are proven and ready to go, re-using proven designs and building on them to ensure high quality and high functionality projects aiming to get the most out of your machine tool. See Swivel use below for and improvement example.
At Seymour we manufacture components in house for our machines, accessories, Re-Engineering projects and spares. We do this machining on machines that have been developed by Seymour and we are continually improving these machines. We understand the requirements of the machining process and provide retrofits based on machines that we use ourselves. We also use CAD CAM and have developed both machine schemas and the post-processors to match the machines so can can offer a complete turnkey solution across the board.
Retrofitting and Re-Engineering go hand in hand. An obvious example is converting a conventional machine to a CNC machine. See our Re-Engineering page for more details.
HE Elgamill Supply and Retrofit with Siemens 828D
The HE Elgamill This was a complete machine supply project. This Elgamill HE machine was supplied retrofitted with a Siemens 828D SL CNC, Seymour E-MGuard and Machine safety. The physical machine safety was upgraded with a Seymour designed Guard system around the vertical slide and Ram. Box Tables and Seymour designed bespoke fixtures were provided to suit the components along with a tooling package.
HE Elgamill Supply and Retrofit with Fagor 8055MC
The HE Elgamill This was a complete machine supply project. This Elgamill HE machine was supplied retrofitted with a Fagor 8055 CNC, Seymour E-MGuard and Machine safety, Bespoke Seymour Designed fixtures and a Tooling package..
T-Type Elgamill Retrofit with Siemens 828D
The T-Type Elgamill. The T-Type Elgamill was retrofitted with a Siemens 828D CNC, Seymour E-MGuard and Machine safety.
Ajax FBF3000 Heidenhain TNC150 replacement with Fagor 8037
The Ajax FBF3000 was upgraded and brought back to reliable operation by replacing the failed Heidenhain TNC150 with a Fagor 8037. Other components were replaced during the process. One extra benefit was that the Ajax was now program compatible with a HAAS VMC on the same site.
CNC Gantry Mill With Siemens 802Dsl
The Gantry Mill Project was a complete re-design of the milling head and a conversion from NC Drilling to CNC drilling and milling.
DSG Pony CNC Lathe Fagor 8055TC
The DSG Pony is a complete retrofit with a Fagor CNC. The original Philip CNC3000 system was removed and the Electrical panel re-engineered. A Fagor 8055TC CNC and Seymour Machine safety were integrated along with Spindle Drive replacement.
Bulter Newall Grinder with Siemens 802D
The Butler Newall Grinder Project was a complete re-design of the machine operating position with a complete Electrical system replacement and new Siemens 802D Grinding system.
The Union BFT105 Project included a Completely new electrical Panel, New Siemens servo motors and drives and New Heidenain TNC530 CNC control.
Kolomna 1563 CNC Re-Engineering and Retrofit
The Kolomna 1563 Project included extensive re-engineering and conversion to CNC.
DSG Pioneer 2413 CNC Lathe Fagor 8040TC
The DSG Pioneer is a complete retrofit with a Fagor CNC. The original Philip CNC3000 system was removed and the Electrical panel re-engineered. A Fagor 8040TC CNC and new axis drives were integrated along with Spindle Drive replacement. The machine was refurbished and fully painted
Butler Elgamill Refurb, Re-Engineer and retrofit
The Elgamill T-Type Project included re-engineering, refurbishment and retrofit.
Milling SWIVEL function use to improve productivity
An example of how a Seymour retrofit can greatly improve your productivity is if you consider a universal head on a machine tool. This is designed to achieve any forward front hemisphere angle for the tool. Many owners only use horizontal or vertical cardinal angles or simple back plate angles only. At Seymour we have developed the use of the modern swivel functions of the Siemens 828D and 840D controls on our new milling machines and these are implemented on our retrofits as standard (system dependant). This means that all that the machine operator or programmer has to do is tell the machine the angle they need to machine at, the CNC calculates the angles that the head sections need to be set to. The machine tilts itself (the working plane) to the angle of the working face. This brings many benefits including;
